Surf The World - One Fool's Quest to Surf Every Coastal Nation On Earth

American road storyteller Woodrow "Pack" Landfair is 50 states and 19 countries deep in an indefinite quest to surf every coastal nation on earth - as a means of meeting people and experiencing their cultures. He books the trips last minute, with no advance study -  usually a same-day, one-way ticket - knowing he may have to return to the surf shop at any moment. Typically the surf shop staff does not even know he left, until he returns 5-10 days later - often with stories of the stranger's cousin who took him in, the surfboards he had to borrow, the unreported political opinions he overheard, or the bits of some language he had to learn in order talk his way onto a train to the airport to get home. 

The "Surf The World" quest is inspired by El Porto Surf Shop's traveling customers, as well as Landfair's 2006-2007 48 state motorcycle odyssey, which he pawned his NCAA Championship ring to fund. The gamble paid off. In 2025 alone, El Porto Surf Shop rented surfboards or provided surf lessons to surfers from all 50 states and over 90 countries.
